Fernanda is a Toronto-based screenwriter who draws inspiration from her
experience as a queer Latina immigrant to write stories about home and
longing.
A Brazilian import, Fernanda D’oro Fontes moved to Canada in 2017. In
Toronto, she has completed the Television Writing and Producing
post-graduate program at Humber College. Now, she writes, story edits,
and dabbles in web development (to the delight of her brother).
Much of her inspiration in storytelling is drawn from her experience as
an immigrant and the lingering memories and saudade of her culture,
family and home. For over two years, she worked as a Development Manager
at CaribbeanTales Media Group, supporting and overseeing the development
and packaging of multiple projects. In 2022, she was selected as a
participant of the Read Latinx initiative.
On the side, she writes hour-long dramas about queer folks, quotes old
movies and cries listening to the work of Stephen Sondheim.
