Fernanda is a Toronto-based screenwriter and arts worker who draws inspiration from her experience as a queer Latina immigrant to write stories about home and longing.
A Brazilian import, Fernanda D’oro Fontes moved to Canada in 2017. In Toronto, she has completed the Television Writing and Producing post-graduate program at Humber College. Now, she writes, story edits and works in film sets and festivals.
Much of her inspiration in storytelling is drawn from her experience as an immigrant and the lingering memories and saudade of her culture, family and home. For over two years, she worked as a Development Manager at CaribbeanTales Media Group, supporting and overseeing the development and packaging of multiple projects. She is an alumn of the TIFF Series Accelerator and Read Latinx. She's currently the Executive Director of Breakthroughs Film Festival, and she's developing a CMF-funded half-hour series.
On the side, she writes hour-long dramas about queer folks, quotes classic Hollywood and cries listening to the work of Stephen Sondheim.
let's work together!
